A young woman from Kannur, Kerala, who had been working at a multi-purpose shop, came to Coimbatore in search of better employment opportunities due to insufficient salary. She started working at a beauty salon in Coimbatore.
During this time, she came across an advertisement online stating that there were jobs available for an artist in the cinema industry. She contacted the phone number provided in the ad.
The person on the other end identified himself as Sureshkumar and claimed that there was a job as an artist in cinema with a salary of ₹60,000 per month. Due to high competition, he asked her to send ₹7 lakh for the position.
Following this, the woman transferred ₹6,12,540 through various bank transactions as per Sureshkumar’s instructions. When she tried contacting him later, the number was found to be switched off.
Realizing she had been defrauded, the woman filed a complaint with the Coimbatore Cyber Crime Police. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Sureshkumar (53) from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on January 21.
