The Commissioner of Coimbatore City Police, A. Saravanasundaram, issued an order on January 21 stating that law and order police officers, in addition to traffic police, can now impose fines on those violating traffic rules in the city.
To prevent accidents within Coimbatore city, the Commissioner has directed traffic police to intensify their efforts. Traffic police have been conducting vehicle checks in various areas to take action against those violating traffic laws.
Furthermore, surveillance cameras have been installed at every signal, and fines are being imposed on violators based on the footage recorded. This has led to a decrease in accidents across the city.
Currently, only traffic police are involved in this process. However, in a new directive, the Commissioner has instructed that law and order police officers from every police station must now also be involved in imposing fines.
Regarding this, police officials stated that the number of vehicles in Coimbatore is increasing daily, which is causing traffic congestion and occasional accidents. To address this, law and order police officers will now take action against traffic violators. Fines-imposing equipment has already been provided to each police station, and officials will use these tools to monitor traffic violations and impose fines. This initiative is expected to reduce accidents and prevent crimes.
