Inmate’s Mysterious Death in Coimbatore Central Jail – Police Investigation Underway

Coimbatore Central Jail houses over 2,000 convicts and more than 500 remand prisoners, with separate facilities for both groups.

On January 27, Yesudas (33), a convict from Tirunelveli district serving a sentence for a murder case in Tiruppur, was working in the jail’s workshop at around 12 PM.

During this time, he went to the restroom but did not return to the workshop even after a long time. Jail officials went to check and found him unconscious with a fractured neck bone in the restroom.

He was rushed to Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital via ambulance, where doctors declared him dead. The Race Course Police were informed of the incident.

Initial investigations suggest that compression of the neck bone led to suffocation, according to the medical report.

The cause of death remains unclear. Authorities are probing whether it was a suicide or if other factors were involved. Jail officials and Race Course Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations.
