Dragon Movie: Release Date, Cast, Plot, & More Details!

A feel-good college drama with emotions, entertainment, and a heartwarming message!

Director Ashwath Marimuthu is back with Dragon, a college-themed drama starring his good friend and Love Today fame Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead role. Set to hit the big screens on February 21, this film marks Ashwath’s return after four years since his debut blockbuster Oh My Kadavule. Produced by AGS Entertainment, Dragon also boasts an impressive star cast, including Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, KS Ravikumar, and Sneha.

So, what makes Dragon different from Oh My Kadavule? And why is this film so special for both Ashwath and Pradeep? Let’s dive in!

A Feel-Good Story with a College Backdrop

Talking about his new venture, Ashwath Marimuthu reveals that while Dragon may have a different setting, the core emotion and heartwarming storytelling remain the same.

“In terms of emotions and storytelling, the essence is similar to Oh My Kadavule. Audiences will walk out of theaters with a smile, maybe a few tears, but most importantly, with a sense of happiness and success,” he says.

However, there is a major difference in the theme and backdrop. While Oh My Kadavule was a romantic fantasy, Dragon is set in a college environment with an inspiring message about success.

“The film’s core message is simple—no matter what you earn, if you earn it honestly, take care of your family, and live a happy life, then you are truly successful,” explains Ashwath.

The trailer has kept the central drama under wraps, but the director assures that the story revolves around a powerful ‘want’ that drives the protagonist forward.

Pradeep Ranganathan as ‘Dragon’ Dhanapal

Pradeep Ranganathan, who had a ₹100 crore blockbuster with Love Today, plays the lead role of Ragavan ‘Dragon’ Dhanapal. Ashwath believes the film will resonate with the audience and offer strong entertainment value.

“Though Pradeep and I are good friends, when it came to Dragon, I was the strict director, and he was just the actor. Everyone on set had the same complaint—I didn’t allow them to modify even a single dialogue!” he laughs. He further adds, “I was very clear that every scene and dialogue should stay true to my vision. Every dialogue connects to the next, and even a small change could affect the character’s arc or emotional depth.” While Pradeep’s natural humor and charm will shine through, Dragon is first and foremost Ashwath’s film, crafted with precise storytelling and strong emotional beats.

Directing Industry Giants: Mysskin, Gautham Menon, and KS Ravikumar

Dragon features not just top actors but also three renowned directors—Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and KS Ravikumar—in key roles. Speaking about directing them, Ashwath admits that it was challenging at first, especially with Mysskin.

“The first few days were tough because I didn’t want any actor to deviate from my script. But once we settled in, it was an incredible experience. Mysskin sir was so supportive—he encouraged me, gave compliments, and even made the crew clap on set!”

He adds, “Mark my words—the first thing people will talk about after watching Dragon is Mysskin’s performance.”

Leon James’ Music – The Soul of Dragon

The music for Dragon is composed by Leon James, and Ashwath can’t stop praising him.

“The music is fantastic. I always say I am Leon’s first and biggest marketing agent! He has done an amazing job with the songs and background score, and I truly hope he gets more great opportunities in the industry.”

With melodious tracks and a powerful BGM, Leon James’ music will be one of the highlights of Dragon.

Exciting News: Ashwath’s Next Film with Simbu as Manmadhan!

While promoting Dragon, Ashwath Marimuthu also dropped an exciting revelation about his next project.

He will be teaming up with Silambarasan (STR) for a fantasy film, set to begin shooting in August.

“Simbu’s film will be very different from Oh My Kadavule and Dragon. It’s a fantasy film where Simbu plays the God of Love. He is not Cupid but plays Manmadhan,” he revealed.

The film is set to be a blend of fantasy and intense storytelling, with Simbu’s character having shades of gray. “When you watch the film, you’ll understand the depth of his role,” Ashwath hints. This announcement has already created a buzz among fans, making it one of the most anticipated projects of 2025!
