Avinashi Road Flyover Nears Completion: Coimbatore’s Traffic Woes to Ease Soon!

The construction of the Avinashi Road flyover, a major infrastructure project in Coimbatore, is nearing completion. Work is expected to be finished within the next two months. This ambitious project, which began in 2020, spans approximately 10 km from Uppilipalayam and requires a substantial investment of ₹1,700 crore.

Key Features of the Flyover

The main carriageway of the flyover is designed to be 17.25 meters wide, accommodating a four-lane road to ensure smooth traffic flow. Initially, the project was scheduled for completion by December 2024, but ongoing efforts have expedited the construction process, bringing it closer to an early finish.

The construction of the four-lane main carriageway of the Avinashi Road flyover in Coimbatore, which began in 2020, is expected to continue for another two months. Initially scheduled for completion by December 2024, the project has faced delays due to various reasons, according to an official from the State Highways Department.

The delay is primarily due to five pending spans. Nearing completion, the Avinashi Road Flyover is still under construction at Hope College, Nava India, and at a steel span that crosses the railway. Three spans are still under construction, including a 52-meter-long steel span that crosses a railway line. The Railways is closely monitoring its progress at every stage, and the span is expected to be installed soon.

The Highways Department has urged the contractor to complete the main carriageway by the end of May this year, but sources indicate that the work might take slightly longer. Of the eight planned ramps for the flyover, four have been completed, and the remaining ramps are expected to be finished on schedule. Once ramp construction is complete, work on service roads alongside them will begin.

On Wednesday, Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar Giriyappanavar inspected the construction site, reviewing the project’s progress and special features. He also inquired about the challenges faced in completing the flyover, ensuring that efforts are being made to expedite the work.
