Coimbatore’s Western Bypass Phase 2 Gets ₹348 Crore Boost for Development

₹348 Crore Sanctioned for 12.5 km Expansion, Awaiting Government Clearance

The State Highways Department is gearing up to launch the second phase of the Western Bypass road project in Coimbatore, pending administrative approval from the Tamil Nadu government.

As part of the Budget announcement on Friday, the government allocated ₹348 crore for the development of a 12.5 km stretch of the bypass. Officials expect the necessary approvals to be issued soon, enabling construction to begin without further delay.

The Western Bypass is a key infrastructure project designed to reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in the region. The first phase, which covers an 11.8 km stretch from Madukkarai to Madhampatti, began last year and is scheduled for completion by August. According to officials, nearly 60% of the work for this phase is already completed. The second phase will extend the bypass from Madhampatti to Kanuvai.

Land acquisition for the second phase is almost complete, and the department has also begun acquiring land for the third phase. Once administrative approval is granted, the department will issue tenders to finalize a contractor for the project.

Further updates on the construction timeline and execution plan will be provided once the government gives the green light for the second phase.
