Three Houses Collapse Near Sanganur Canal in Coimbatore

Three houses collapsed near the Sanganur Canal, close to the Sivanantha Colony in Coimbatore, due to embankment construction work for the canal.

The HDFC Colony, located near Coimbatore’s Sivanantha Colony, houses over 70 residences. Behind this residential area lies the Sanganur Canal. Embankment wall construction work has been ongoing in the canal for several months.

On January 20, embankment work took place near the canal, with excavation machines used to clear both sides of the Sanganur Canal. In the evening, while the work was ongoing near the canal, one of the houses was damaged at the rear, causing cracks in the wall.

The workers immediately asked the residents to evacuate the house. Following this, Lakshmanaraj and Renukadevi, the residents of the house, vacated the premises. Shortly after, the entire house collapsed. Two nearby tiled houses also fell. This incident caused anxiety among the residents in the area.
