Coimbatore Corporation Plans Temporary Parking Facility at Ukkadam

To alleviate parking issues, the Coimbatore Corporation has initiated steps to establish a temporary parking facility on a vacant piece of land in Ukkadam. The land, located opposite the Ukkadam police station, spans approximately three acres and was previously home to conservancy workers’ residential units.

To secure the site and prevent encroachments, the corporation has started installing a barbed wire fence around the area. A senior official from the civic body stated that the land is expected to accommodate part of the upcoming Ukkadam bus stand in the future. However, until construction begins, the space will be utilized as a temporary parking facility to address the growing demand for parking in the area.

Currently, private buses and cars use the vacant land for parking, while street vendors sell fish, fruits, and juices nearby. Additionally, visitors to the Smart Cities Mission Lake in Ukkadam struggle with limited parking options. The corporation aims to alleviate these challenges by providing an organized parking space, ensuring better traffic management and convenience for commuters.
