Compensation Ordered for Construction Mishap in Coimbatore

Soundararajan, a resident of Vadavalli, Idaiyarpalayam, Coimbatore, had entered into an agreement with Vilankurichi-based Latha Associates construction company to construct rooms on the first floor of his house. He had also paid the agreed amount. However, the company handed over the building without completing the construction properly.

During the rainy seasons, water leakage caused severe wall damage, forcing Soundararajan to spend an additional ₹7 lakh on repairs.

Subsequently, he filed a case with the Coimbatore Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, seeking compensation. On January 22, the Commission’s Chairman Thangavel and members delivered a judgment. They directed the construction company to pay ₹7.02 lakh for structural damages, ₹25,000 for mental agony, and ₹5,000 as legal fees.

This verdict sets an important precedent for consumer protection in the construction sector.
