Elderly Man Dies After Elephant Attack Near Thadagam, Coimbatore

For the past few days, wild elephants have been straying out of the Coimbatore Thadagam forest area into nearby villages during nighttime. To monitor and prevent such incidents, the forest department has formed a team named “Alpha,” which is actively patrolling the region.

Today, January 23, around 5:00 AM, a wild elephant ventured out of the forest area. At the same time, Natarajan, a grocery store owner from Thaliyur, went for his routine morning walk on the Thaliyur road at approximately 5:30 AM.

Unfortunately, Natarajan was attacked by the lone wild elephant and tragically died on the spot.

Upon receiving the information, forest department officials and Thadagam police rushed to the scene to retrieve Natarajan’s body and attempted to send it for a post-mortem examination.

However, over 50 of Natarajan’s relatives and villagers protested on the Thaliyur road, blocking the authorities from moving the body.

Following negotiations between the forest department, police, and the public, the protest was eventually called off. This tragic incident has caused significant unrest in the region.
