A verdict has been delivered today (January 23) in the infamous honor killing case of 2019 that took place in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore. The case, which involved the murder of two individuals who attempted to marry against parental opposition, was heard in the SC/ST Special Court in Coimbatore.
Vinoth Kumar (24), the brother of one of the victims, Kanakaraj, along with three others, was arrested for the brutal murder of Kanakaraj and his partner, Varshinipriya. The couple was hacked to death with a sickle.
In connection with the case, Kandhavel, Chinnaraj, and Ayyappan were also arrested on charges of abetment, along with Vinoth Kumar, the prime accused.
The trial was conducted before Judge Vivekanandar today. The court stated that Vinoth Kumar could face a death sentence, and the arguments regarding the punishment will take place on January 29, 2025. The court also ordered a clarification from the prison authorities regarding the convict.
As the charges against Vinoth Kumar were proven, the court declared him guilty. However, Kandhavel, Ayyappan, and Chinnaraj were acquitted as the prosecution failed to substantiate charges against them.
