A former registration department officer’s wife has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined Rs. 10,000 by the court for acquiring assets beyond her known income.
Gopalkrishnan, a resident of Coimbatore, had served as an officer in the registration department in Salem district. It was found that he and his wife, Dina, had accumulated assets worth Rs. 34.58 lakh, which was disproportionate to their income. The case was heard in the Coimbatore Anti-Corruption Special Court. Meanwhile, Gopalkrishnan passed away in 2021, and the case continued against his wife, Dina.
After the trial concluded, Judge Mohanaramiya sentenced Dina to one year of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on January 29.
