“People Are Forgetting Periyar,” Says BJP State President Annamalai in Coimbatore

The centenary celebrations of Santhalinga Ramasamy Adigal and a book launch event were held on January 23 at Perur Tamil College, Coimbatore.

BJP Tamil Nadu State President Annamalai attended the event as the chief guest and launched the book “Marainthirukkum Marmam” by P. Raghuraman. Addressing the audience, Annamalai appreciated the contributions of Adigal and highlighted the importance of Tamil culture and heritage.

Later, speaking to reporters, Annamalai mentioned the Central Government’s cancellation of the tungsten mining project in Melur. “The project, which covered 4,984 acres, has been entirely scrapped, bringing peace to over 20,000 villagers who were anxious about losing their land. This decision underscores the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare, even though tungsten is a vital mineral for the nation. I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing the farmers,” he said.

Annamalai also highlighted the significance of Tamil as an ancient language, stating, “Scientific evidence shows that Tamil has been spoken for over 5,300 years. As research progresses, we might uncover evidence of an even older Tamil civilization. Every Tamilian should take pride in our rich heritage, including the use of iron tools dating back more than 5,300 years.”

When questioned about the controversy surrounding the Thirupparankundram Temple, Annamalai reiterated his plans to complete his 48-day fasting vow at the site in February. He criticized the DMK and Indian Union Muslim League MP Nawaz Kani, accusing them of inciting religious tensions. “Thirupparankundram has been a sacred place for Hindus for centuries, with historical records dating back to 1931 confirming its status. BJP will initiate a major movement centered on Thirupparankundram to preserve its sanctity,” he declared.

Annamalai condemned actions that disrupt religious harmony, emphasizing the need for unity and respect for Tamil traditions.
