Coimbatore Division Government Transport Corporation Earns ₹11.34 Crores Through Pongal Special Buses

During the Pongal festival holidays, extended school and college breaks lasting over five days prompted many people to travel to their hometowns.

To facilitate this, 1,520 special buses were operated, generating ₹11.34 crores in revenue for the Government Transport Corporation.

An official from the Transport Corporation stated on January 22, “Before Pongal, 680 special buses were operated from Coimbatore, accommodating 1.74 lakh passengers.

After Pongal, 494 special buses were operated, helping 1.47 lakh passengers return from their hometowns. In total, 1,174 special buses served 3.21 lakh passengers.”

The official further added, “Through these operations, ₹5 crores were generated before Pongal and ₹6.34 crores after Pongal, making a total revenue of ₹11.34 crores. Additionally, 7 lakh passengers traveled through the regularly operated buses.”
