2025 Tamil Nadu International Hot Air Balloon Festival in Coimbatore, Chennai, & Madurai

Get ready to witness the magic of colorful giants floating across Tamil Nadu’s stunning skyline! The Tamil Nadu International Balloon Festival (TNIBF) is back for its milestone 10th edition, and this time it’s bigger than ever, spreading its wings across three vibrant cities.

Picture this: majestic hot air balloons from eight countries painting the skies above Chennai’s coastal beauty, Coimbatore’s lush landscapes, and Madurai’s historic terrain. The festival is bringing together aerial artists from the UK, France, Austria, Brazil, Belgium, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam – truly making it a global celebration in our own backyard.

When and Where to Catch the Action

Mark your calendars, folks! The aerial spectacle kicks off in Chennai from January 10-12 at Thiruvadanthai ECR near Kovalam. Next up, the festival floats to the picturesque Pollachi, Coimbatore from January 14-16, coinciding perfectly with Pongal celebrations. The grand finale? A first-time spectacular in Madurai from January 18-19 at the Kalaignar Centenary Jallikattu Arena.

Benedict Savio, the mastermind behind TNIBF and Director of Global Media Box, shares his excitement: “In Chennai, the event will take place at Thiruvadanthi ECR near Kovalam. And this is the first time we are hosting this event in Madurai. In Madurai, we will have free flying at the Kalaignar Centenary Jallikattu Arena.”

Not Just Hot Air: Safety First!

Before you start dreaming about floating away, here’s the serious stuff. These aren’t your regular party balloons – they’re legitimate aircraft operating under strict aviation rules. “Hot air balloon festivals are spectator events that are entirely dependent on nature,” Savio explains. “Calm winds and favorable weather are critical for safe operations. All decisions regarding flight and tethering are made by certified pilots.”

New This Year: Mini Balloons for Mini Engineers

Got curious kids? This year’s festival has something special brewing. “We are bringing mini balloon models to help children learn how hot air balloons work,” reveals Savio. It’s the perfect blend of education and entertainment – because who said physics can’t be fun?

Why This Festival is a Big Deal

The TNIBF isn’t just about pretty balloons in the sky. It’s a testament to Tamil Nadu’s growing appeal as an international tourism destination. With over 10 hot air balloons participating from across the globe, it’s putting our state on the world map of aerial festivals.

As the festival operates under civil aviation regulations, Savio emphasizes, “Hot air balloons are classified as aircraft and operate under strict civil aviation rules and regulations.” This commitment to safety and professionalism has helped TNIBF grow into South India’s premier balloon festival.
