The Lorrypetta office in Ukkadam, Coimbatore, is set to be relocated to the Coimbatore Corporation building in Vellalore, according to an announcement.
Currently operating on 4.50 acres in Ukkadam under the Coimbatore Corporation South Zone, Lorrypetta handles goods transportation to various parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and other states. Parcel booking offices for intercity shipments also function in this area, contributing to significant traffic congestion.
To mitigate this issue, the Corporation plans to set up a 25,792 sq. ft. heavy vehicle registration office and parcel offices on the first floor of its building on Bothanur-Chettipalayam Road in Vellalore. The facility will also include space to accommodate 129 heavy vehicles.
Additionally, a 15.43-acre area in Vellalore is earmarked for heavy vehicle parking. Plans are in place to establish facilities such as pharmacies, grocery stores, spare parts shops, repair shops, restaurants, and tea stalls within the area.
A municipal official stated on January 20, “Work on setting up the heavy vehicle registration office and shops at the Vellalore Corporation building will commence soon. Once completed, the Lorrypetta office and parcel booking office in Ukkadam will be relocated to Vellalore.”
