Sarojini (72), a resident of Lower Paralai Estate near Valparai, was found dead at her home last Saturday with severe injuries to her head and body.
The Valparai police registered a case and conducted investigations, questioning several individuals from the area. With the help of a sniffer dog, they apprehended Rangarathan (24), a local resident, and conducted an intensive inquiry.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Rangarathan, under the influence of alcohol, spoke to Sarojini while passing her house on Saturday. A heated argument ensued, during which he attacked and killed her with a sickle in a fit of rage.
The police arrested Rangarathan on January 20, presented him in court, and subsequently lodged him in Coimbatore Central Jail.
